The Good Earth Farm Animal Sanctuary
The farm has been a sanctuary for animals and humans since 2011. The animals under our care will live out their natural lives in a setting that allows them to live their best life.
In early 2023 we became a non-profit farm animal sanctuary. All contributions we receive for the animals goes directly to their care (feed, vet costs, and farrier costs). It has taken 12 years for the farm to take shape. As we look forward to 2024, we hope to make improvements to existing buildings and pastures which will allow us to provide sanctuary to more farm animals. This is when it all began--May of 2011. T-bone and his friend Rex were looking for a place to live. We had a barn, plenty of space, and no idea what we were getting into.
Buck arrived shortly after T-Bone and Rex. We were looking for a cattle dog (red heeler) when we came across 12 Hills Dog Rescue in Walthill, Ne. Buck (Rambo at the time) LOVED Jeff and our elderly rat terrier Conrad. He came home with us and soon became my (Nancy) shadow. Buck is now a stately 13 years old.
Felix is the king of the cats! He was the last cat out of Second Chance Rescue in Sioux Falls. Cora Lee, Jeff's mom, brought him out to the farm. She called him Lucky, but we thought he deserved a fancier name: Felix is Latin for Lucky.
Maria and Rita are mother and daughter and have been at the farm for seven years. Maria came to the farm from another mini donkey rescue and she was pregnant. Little Rita was born and instantly captured our hearts. She and her mother are never far apart.
Sydney is another rescue from 12 Hills. She is part heeler, lab, and crazy. She loves her sister Pearl mostly because Pearl is the only one who can keep up with her.
These two tiny piggies are Harriet and Charlie. It's hard to imagine that Charlie was once this little! Harriet was our first pig and you can read more about her in the blog section. After Harriet's passing, Charlie needed a friend. It just so happened that Harold, his half brother, was looking for a home.
Harold is 5 years old and full of life. He gave us quite a scare in 2022 after receiving anesthesia. He's almost back to his sassy self and loves to be by his brother.
Charlie is now 6 years old and weighs about 1100 pounds. He loves pancakes, breakfast cereal, and pumpkin pie
Pearl is an elusive one. She runs free, but stops by occasionally to tip over drinks, eat crackers, and check in with Jeff.
The Chickens have been around for a long time. The don't really lay eggs anymore, but they get a chance just like everyone else. They hate to be chased and are never held.
Meet Jacques the 2nd. He is the fluffiest silkie around.
The little women are force to be reckoned with. They are Pilgrim geese who patrol the yard alerting us to anything out of the ordinary.
The ducks. There are now 4 ducks that roam the place--two females and two drakes. All four of them get bossed around by the Little Women.

Rex has THE most fantastic mane. If you are looking for him in the summer, he is standing in front of a fan so his hair can look like an 80's rock star.
